# Post-Purchase Surveys Reward customers with bonus entries for answering a short survey after they buy. Surveys are a great way to collect product feedback, measure satisfaction, capture birthdays for future campaigns, and learn who your customers are — all while giving them another reason to earn entries. > **Plan:** Post-purchase surveys are included with **Unlimited Pro**. See [Plans & Pricing](what-is-giveaway-gator.md#plans-pricing). ## How It Works 1. You build a survey with one or more questions. 2. The survey automatically appears to customers on the **thank-you page** after checkout and on their **order status page**. 3. When a customer completes the survey, they instantly earn the bonus entries you set. 4. You review the answers — with charts, audience segments, and side-by-side comparisons — back in the app. Each customer can complete a survey once, so they can't farm entries by resubmitting. Answering on one page means it won't ask again on the other. ## Creating a Survey 1. Open **Giveaway Gator** in your Shopify admin and go to **Surveys**. 2. Click **Create survey**. 3. Fill in the basics: - **Title** — the headline customers see (e.g., "Get 100 entries for answering a few questions"). - **Description** — a short intro line under the title. - **Entry reward** — how many bonus entries a customer earns for completing the survey (default 100). 4. Add your questions (see below). 5. Save it as a **draft** while you build, then switch the status to **active** to start collecting responses. Once active, it automatically appears on the thank-you and order status pages for every promotion. ## Question Types Add as many questions as you like. Each question is shown on its own step, so customers tap through one at a time. | Type | What it's for | |------|---------------| | **Single choice** | Pick one option from a list | | **Multiple choice** | Pick several options from a list | | **Short text** | A one-line written answer | | **Long text** | A longer written answer or comment | | **Rating (1–5)** | A star/number rating | | **NPS (0–10)** | "How likely are you to recommend us?" — measures loyalty | | **Birthday** | Capture a customer's birthday for future campaigns | For each question you can: - Mark it **required** so customers must answer before continuing. - **Randomize the options** on choice questions so the order isn't always the same. - **Tag customers from their answer** — automatically apply a customer tag based on what they choose (for example, tag everyone who rates you 5 stars, or tag a customer's birthday month). Tagged customers can then be targeted in Shopify, your email tool, or future promotions. ## Where the Survey Appears An active survey automatically appears in two places after a customer buys: - On the **thank-you page**, right after checkout, while the customer is most engaged. - On the **order status page** in the customer's account, so they can answer later from their order history. It shows for every promotion, and each customer can earn the reward once — if they answer on one page, it won't ask again on the other. (Placement and audience are handled for you, so there's nothing to configure here.) ## Reviewing Results Open a survey and click **Results** to see how customers are responding. At the top you'll find a summary: total responses, completion rate, how many times the survey was shown, and total entries awarded. Each question is broken down in the way that fits its type: - **Choice questions** — a bar chart of answers, sorted from most to least popular. - **Rating** — the average score. - **NPS** — your Net Promoter Score, with the split between Promoters, Passives, and Detractors. - **Text** — a readable list of written answers, with the customer's email and order, paged a few at a time. - **Birthday** — a month-by-month breakdown, plus a list of upcoming birthdays in the next six months. ### Segments Filter results to a specific audience instead of looking at everyone at once. Giveaway Gator includes ready-made segments — **New entrants**, **Repeat purchasers**, **Loyalists**, and **High spenders** — and you can build your own. To create a custom segment, set rules using fields like giveaways entered, lifetime entries, entries in this giveaway, orders in the giveaway, first-time entrant, order value band, or when the response was submitted. Combine rules with **all** (every rule must match) or **any** (at least one matches), and preview how many responses match before you save. ### Comparing Segments Pick two segments to see their answers side by side — responses, share, average rating, NPS, and entries — with the difference between them. This is the fastest way to see how, say, loyal customers answer differently from first-timers. ### Filtering by Date Narrow results to all time, a custom date range, or a specific promotion. ### Exporting Responses Click **Export** to download every response as a CSV, with each question's answer in its own column — ready for a spreadsheet or deeper analysis. ## Tips - Keep surveys short. One to three questions earns the most completions. - Make the entry reward feel worth it relative to your dollar-per-entry rate. - Use **tag from answer** on a birthday or rating question to build audiences you can market to later. - Start a survey as a **draft**, preview it, then flip it to **active** when you're happy. ## Related - [Post-Purchase Actions](post-purchase-actions.md) — reward customers for following you, referring friends, and more. - [Thank You Page](thank-you-page.md) — the entries display the survey appears alongside. - [Order Status Page](order-status-entries.md) — another place your survey appears.
