# Bonus Discount Codes

Bonus discount codes award extra entries when a customer uses a specific code at checkout. They work alongside your existing Shopify discount codes — you're adding a giveaway bonus on top of whatever discount the code already provides.

## Why Use Bonus Discount Codes?

- **Reward code sharing** — Influencers, affiliates, and loyal customers can share codes that give their audience bonus entries
- **Track marketing channels** — Different codes let you see which campaigns are driving engagement
- **Sweeten the deal** — A discount code that also gives bonus giveaway entries is more compelling than a discount alone

## Setting Up a Bonus Discount Code

1. Open **Giveaway Gator** and go to the **Discount Codes** page.
2. Click **Add Discount Code**.
3. Fill in:
   - **Discount Code**: The exact code customers enter at checkout (e.g., "FREESHIPPING25"). This should match an existing Shopify discount code.
   - **Usage Limit** (optional): Leave blank for unlimited uses, or set a cap.
   - **Bonus Entries**: The number of extra entries awarded when this code is used.
4. Click **Add**.

The bonus entries are added on top of the customer's normal order entries. For example, if an order earns 50 entries and the discount code adds 25 bonus entries, the customer gets 75 total.

## Multiple Discount Codes

If a customer uses more than one discount code on a single order and you've configured bonus entries for multiple codes, **all matching codes award their bonus entries**. The entries from each code are added together.

For example, if a customer uses both "FREESHIP10" (worth 10 bonus entries) and "VIP25" (worth 25 bonus entries), they'll receive 35 total bonus entries from discount codes.

## Managing Codes

All your bonus discount codes are listed on the **Discount Codes** page in Giveaway Gator. From there you can edit the bonus entry amount or delete codes you no longer need.

> **Note:** The discount itself (percentage off, free shipping, etc.) is still managed in your Shopify admin under **Discounts**. Giveaway Gator only controls the bonus entries attached to the code.
